McKenzie-Willamette Medical Center Earns ‘A’ Hospital Safety Grade from The Leapfrog Group
New grade reflects significant progress in patient safety initiatives

SPRINGFIELD, OR (November 13, 2025)—McKenzie-Willamette Medical Center (MWMC) earned an “A” Hospital Safety Grade from The Leapfrog Group, a national nonprofit focused on patient safety and transparency. Leapfrog evaluates hospitals nationwide and assigns letter grades based on more than 30 national performance measures, representing a hospital’s overall performance in keeping patients safe from preventable harm and medical errors.

MWMC has advanced multiple safety initiatives, including enhanced staff education, updated clinical protocols, infection-prevention practices, and new technology designed to improve patient outcomes and care coordination.

“We are thrilled to celebrate McKenzie-Willamette Medical Center earning an ‘A’ in hospital safety,” said Greg Brentano, Interim CEO of McKenzie-Willamette Medical Center. “Patient safety is a relentless pursuit of putting patients first, and the ‘A’ score reflects the dedication of physicians, nurses, and staff who are committed to this goal. We’re incredibly proud of this achievement and of a team that continuously raises the bar for quality health care in Lane County.”

According to Leapfrog, its Expert Panel selected 22 evidence-based measures of patient safety, including the CMS Medicare PSI 90 Patient Safety and Adverse Events Composite, which includes 10 component safety measures. The panel analyzed the data and determined the weight of each measure based on evidence, opportunity for improvement, and impact.
